Film Synopsis:
Marica Filipović, known as Danuša’s Mara, is almost single-handedly preserving folk music in central Bosnia and Herzegovina by playing traditional instruments and teaching others about them. A self-taught phenomenon, this documentary explores her public persona invites others to interrogate the public role of women in Bosnian society and the value of musical traditions.
Director's Biography
Born in Zagreb in 1966. Since 1996 he works for Croatian television (HTV) as a director. Although his primary field of focus is religious program, he runs projects in other domains as well. With no formal film education, he has directed a number of documentary reports and several documentary shorts about various cities and parishes in Croatia as well as the live broadcasts of John Paul II as well as Benedict XVI when they were visiting Croatia. In the last few years and his frequent co-writer and program editor Ljiljana Šišmanović, are also involved in a program aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of Croatia (Folk and Traditional Culture) by making ethnographic and anthropological documentaries about different Croatian customs and traditions. Since 2016 Borić is a member of the Croatian Film Directors Guild. In the past few years his films have been in about 70 festivals, winning 19 awards in different categories.
