Four sixty-something year old people of Balkan origin read a transcript of a conversation between four twenty-something people also of Balkan origin who discuss the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia and the various frictions they experience between their own and their parents’ generation relating to this history. The participants then react to the content by commenting on the guilt, shame and legacy of communism in the wake of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.

Director's Biography

Damir Avdagic is an interdisciplinary artist, currently living and working between Oslo, Norway and New York, US. Damir Avdagic´s artistic practice is based in performance, text and video and deals with issues of historical memory and identity. Through various strategies, Avdagic and the participants in his work perform recorded monologues, conversations, letters and documents which are circumscribed by the same historical event, reflecting on how history is passed between generations and what effect it bears on cultural identity, nationality and the self. The historical background for Avdagic's work is the conflict in Ex-Yugoslavia, which lasted from 1991-1995 and from which his family fled to Norway in 1993. Avdagic has produced a number of video works, which are usually shown in gallery settings. Including "Prevodenje(Translation)" from 2014 and
"Reenactment/Process" from 2016.
