As the BHFF team joyfully announces the commencement of our 20th-anniversary season for BHFF 2024, we invite filmmakers and audiences alike to join us in this landmark celebration. This year is not just another edition of the festival but a significant milestone in our journey of promoting the diversity and depth of Bosnian-Herzegovinian storytelling through cinema. The festival not only serves as a pivotal cultural connection for the Bosnian and regional diaspora in New York City, but also opens a window to Bosnian and regional culture for a global audience. From its inception as a film revue event, the BHFF has blossomed into a celebrated New York City institution, earning acclaim from filmmakers, cultural institutions, critics and film aficionados.
In this special 20th anniversary edition, we plan to showcase between 15 and 20 productions, continuing our tradition of screening an eclectic mix of feature, documentary, short, and animated films. These films are either crafted by Bosnian-Herzegovinian talents or delve into themes surrounding Bosnia-Herzegovina. The festival will also feature a series of interactive events, encouraging critical dialogue between the Balkan region’s filmmakers and our diverse New York City audience.
Reflecting on the success of our previous year, the 2023 festival honored outstanding films and filmmakers, setting a high bar for this year's submissions. The call for entries for this momentous 20th edition of BHFF is now open and will close on February 28, 2024.

Join us in celebrating two decades of extraordinary storytelling and cinematic excellence at BHFF 2024!
Submit Your Film
The BHFF programming team will consider features, shorts, documentaries, and animated films by Bosnian-Herzegovinian filmmakers and films that have Bosnia-Herzegovina as their theme. Films Eligible for Consideration by BHFF are:
1. Films directed or co-directed by a Bosnian-Herzegovinian film director either residing or stemming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, or
2. Films produced or co-produced by a Bosnian-Herzegovinian film production company based in Bosnia and Herzegovina, or
3. Films by any filmmakers, directors or production companies that have Bosnia and Herzegovina as the film's subject or that relate closely to Bosnian-Herzegovinian socio-economic, cultural and historical issues, and
4. Films complying with at least one point above and produced in 2021, 2022 or 2023
Films selected to screen at the 20th annual BHFF are eligible to win a number of honors, including the Golden Apple audience award. Films previously screened at the BHFF have won awards around the world, including at the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.
