Film Synopsis:

Mira Furlan plays the ethereal voice of Sava. Once the longest river in Yugoslavia she converses with her people who share memories, dreams and visions of the future on a 990km odyssey downstream. Sava is a witness to human history; a conduit between East and West, the dividing line of great empires and a common thread between nations. Today she flows along borders through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. As her final words ring out, Sava sings.

Director's Biography

Matthew Somerville is an image collector, visual artist, camera person, film director, producer and one man band living in London. In 2013 he founded production company Sava Films LTD ( and documentary collective Configure/Disfigure ( to work on a range of commissions for organisations, charities and design agencies while working on personal projects, short films and feature documentaries. His work often explores the relationships between humans, the natural world and their physical environments with compassion and curiosity at its heart.
